Letter to Parents On School Letterhead
This is a sample of the type of letter that should be sent out to the parents of your child's classmates. It is important to have the letter printed on school stationery. That way, the other parents know that this is a directive from the top administrators.
TO: First grade parents
RE: Life-threatening food allergies
FROM: Principal, first grade teacher, school nurse
DATE: August 2004
There are two students in your child’s first-grade class who have life-threatening food allergies. In order to keep these students safe, we are providing you with some important information with the parents’ permission.
Tommy Miller is severely allergic to milk, eggs, and tree nuts (nuts grown on a tree, such as cashews, pistachios, etc.). David Zimmerman is severely allergic to peanuts and all peanut products. If either child contacts even a trace amount of the food to which he’s allergic, he is at risk for anaphylaxis, a potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.
For this reason, the school principal, the nurse, and the first grade teacher have worked with the families to minimize possible exposure to these allergens. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the principal or the first-grade teacher. Attached are lists of food ingredients that Tommy and David must avoid to live safely, along with basic food allergy information.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
